GM Defiance targeted investment of 47 million - Sacramento Bee

DEFIANCE, Ohio, 10 June 2011-/ PRNewswire / - General Motors intends to invest $ 47 million in its plant in Powertrain of contempt for the purchase of tooling and equipment to increase the volume of components for the Ecotec 1.4 l fuel-efficient engine and the next generation of automotive engines and trucks small block.

"This investment reflects the growing demand for fuel-efficient vehicles, fuel, such as the Chevrolet Cruze, Volt and the new Sonic," GM Arvin manufacturing Manager Jones said Friday.  "The goods produced here will help our customers deal with the increase in fuel prices.".

The announcement of Defiance is part of 2 billions of dollars of us investment that GM announced May 10 to 17 facilities in eight States. Facilities in Bowling Green, Kentucky; Arlington, Tex. Toledo, Ohio. Bedford, Ind..; and Bay City, Detroit, Flint, Lansing, and Warren, Michigan, also receive investments that will have a positive impact on employment.  This relies on the 3.4 billion invested dollars and 9,000 jobs GM has created or kept in the United States since mid-2009.

The plant, which opened in 1948, produced 5.8 million pieces annually. Last it was improved in 2010 to allow the facility to produce parts for the 1.4 L engine.

"We appreciate the enormous support, we have received from the community of non-confidence over the years," said Jones. "This investment is possible because of teamwork between GM, the UAW, the community of non-confidence and the great Ohio State."

Defiance has 1,277 hourly and salaried employees.

"211 Local UAW members have played an active role in the construction of a strong partnership with the direction of the defiance plant," said Joe Ashton, vice President UAW - GM Department.

"It is in places like Defiance GM should invest to make the American dream to live a middle class lifestyle can be satisfied."
